The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) recommends that a child’s first dental visit take place by the child’s 1st birthday. The younger a child is for their first dental visit, the easier it is to prevent problems and build positive associations that guide them into adulthood. Biannual preventative dental appointments are imperative for excellent oral health.

Meet Dr. Leanet Ascunce, DMD

Originally from Havana, Cuba, Dr. Leanet Ascunce and her family moved to Miami, Florida, when she was seven years old. Her experiences as a child inspired her to become a dentist at an early age. After graduating from Florida International University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, she was accepted to the University of Florida College of Dentistry in Gainesville, where she earned her DMD degree in 2008. Upon graduation, she completed a General Practice Residency at the Malcom Randall Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
