Meet Dr. Ascunce

Pediatric Dentist Fort Myers

Originally from Havana, Cuba, Dr. Leanet Ascunce and her family moved to Miami, Florida, when she was seven years old. Her experiences as a child inspired her to become a dentist at an early age. After graduating from Florida International University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, she was accepted to the University of Florida College of Dentistry in Gainesville, where she earned her DMD degree in 2008. Upon graduation, she completed a General Practice Residency at the Malcom Randall Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

In 2009, Dr. Ascunce relocated to sunny Southwest Florida in order to pursue a career as a general dentist, and it was during this time that she discovered the wonderful world of pediatric dentistry. During her tenure as a general dentist, she worked closely with a pediatric dentist, and when the pediatric dentist left to start her own practice, Dr. Ascunce took over her role and treated children as well. It was while working with children that she realized that pediatric dentistry was her true calling, as she was able to positively shape a child’s experience with their oral health so that they would not fear going to the dentist. After having practiced general dentistry for four years, she decided to pursue her dream of becoming a pediatric dentist and was accepted to the Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine at Boston University. She has been providing quality oral health care to children of all ages since completing her certificate in pediatric dentistry in 2015.

According to Dr. Ascunce, “the most rewarding part of my career is restoring a child’s smile and oral health with love and compassion.” “It’s very rewarding to hear parents tell me time and time again how much their child looks forward to seeing me every six months or how excited they are to have their “sugar bugs” removed.” “Parents love my outgoing, upbeat, and playful personality, and they appreciate that I make their children feel comfortable and less scared at their dental visits.” Dr. Ascunce is passionate about educating both her patients and parents about the importance of good oral health and its impact on overall wellness.

Dr. Ascunce is a member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, the Florida Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, the American Dental Association, and the Florida Dental Association. She is a board-certified pediatric dentist and a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry.

When not in the office fighting sugar bugs, Dr. Ascunce enjoys spending time with her family and friends, traveling, and cooking. Dr. Ascunce is fluent in both Spanish and English. During football season, you can find her cheering on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Florida Gators with her husband. In particular, she enjoys spending time with and loving her two fur babies, Sophie and Paris. Dr. Ascunce is very excited and honored to be bringing Little Big Smiles to Fort Myers and looks forward to welcoming your child and your family to their dental home.
